Ringette Association named Affiliate of Club Excellence

Ottawa, Ontario -- February 3, 2015 -- With 175 players, Cochrane Ringette Association has grown by 100 per cent in the five years and its president Steve Rosenberg says they look forward to continuing to increase in numbers and popularity.

Most recently, the association became one of 10 Alberta ringette associations named as an affiliate of Club Excellence, a national association set up to create healthy, sustainable and well-managed sports clubs in Canada.

“It’s very exciting because it shows that these clubs are striving for the top and being recognized for their efforts,” said Lauren Koster, officials development coordinator with Ringette Alberta.

To become affiliated, the clubs were required to complete a self-evaluation on their practices. Now that they have completed that step and become official affiliates, they will aim to become nationally certified.

“Organizations that are fully certified are recognized for promoting safe and welcoming environments, promoting long-term athlete development and having sound policies and practices,” said Koster. “Those are all ideas that Ringette Alberta believes in very highly.”

Here in Cochrane, the ringette association saw value in measuring themselves against a best-practice model, explained Rosenberg, and have a second set of eyes on how they operate. Looking to the future, they want to ensure their structure allows new people to become involved while equipping existing members to take on different roles so the organization’s success can carry forward.

RAB Challenge
For the second time in three years, Cochrane has been chosen to host the RAB Challenge, a development camp offered by Ringette Alberta.

Being held Apr. 10 to 12, this development camp is for ringette players, ages 13 to 15. Athletes in the camp participate on a team made up of players from across the province who may come with different skill sets than their own. It also exposes them to new coaching styles and methods in a fun, developmentally focused weekend.
