A successful first week for Club Excellence AFFILIATE status

OTTAWA, Ontario (July 30, 2014) – Club Excellence, the only multi-sport certification program for community sport clubs in Canada, is happy to announce that the AFFILIATE status has been very well received since being launched one week ago. There has been seven clubs who have declared they meet the 10 key requirements necessary for AFFILIATE status.

“When a club or sport association declares AFFILIATE status to the Club Excellence program, they are demonstrating to athletes, parents, officials, and their community, a commitment to proper governance principles, increased financial accountability, promotion of long-term athlete development, and ultimately to fair, safe and inclusive experiences for all.” said the Chair of the Club Excellence Cooperative, John Edwards.

Only hours after the launch of the online self-declaration platform, the Ortona Gymnastics Club in Edmonton, became the first Club Excellence AFFILIATE by declaring compliance to the 10 key requirements. The purpose of this status is to provide a clear, realistic and achievable starting point for clubs to commit to certain requirements leading to higher levels of certification.

“We were incredibly pleased and proud to see Ortona reach AFFILATE status with Club Excellence this month.” said the club’s Executive Director, Jennifer Boso-Hudak. “We were also pleased to note that many of our current business practices and sports program deliveries already aligned with the Club Excellence’s standards requirements and standards.

Boso-Hudak noted further that “Club Excellence’s standards provide sports organizations with a framework that can be utilized in any sport, and the outline can be completed at any pace.

The Ortona Gymnastics club is joined now by six other sport clubs from 3 different provinces who have also declared AFFILIATE status over the past week. These clubs are now benefitting from:

  • Free webinars, tools, and resources to support club development
  • Access to quarterly newsletter (new resources, new affiliates, tips, etc.)
  • Website recognition
  • Access to Level 1 certification
  • Use of the AFFILIATE logo (website, promotional material, etc.)
  • Custom AFFILIATE certificate
