Talisman Centre High Performance Sport Strategy Advances Canada’s Elite Athletes

Calgary, AB - September 8, 2014 – Talisman Centre is excited to announce a furthered investment in high performance sport with key sport initiatives including; strategic alignment with Club Excellence, the formation of an Integrated Support Team, new performance coach appointments and event bidding. Leadership of these focus areas continues to demonstrate Talisman Centre’s commitment and over-arching strategy to develop and support more systematic methods of ensuring athlete achievements against desired performance outcomes.

Talisman Centre's 31-year history and strong brand as a world-class sport training and competition facility is now strengthened by its alignment with Club Excellence. !is alignment will provide Talisman Centre with a dynamic approach to support its 28 Sport Partners, through a certification framework that will lead to better governance, increased capacity, increased brand equity and increased return on investment. !e Club Excellence standards are divided into two main areas (Sport Delivery, Sport Management) and six sub-sections (Program Delivery, Coaching, People Management, Governance, Financial Accountability, and Marketing).

Talisman Centre has also introduced new talent development programs and an Integrated Support Team (IST) to target and support emerging athletes to better prepare them for entry into the high performance environment. IST combines experts in sports medicine, nutrition, physiotherapy, massage, chiropractic, strength and conditioning with a common goal of helping athletes succeed in sport by maximizing their health, recovery, strength and endurance.

To ensure success of its sport training programs and competitive athletes on a world-class scale, Talisman Centre has hired industry leading performance coaches Les Gramantik and Bart Ujack. Les Gramantik is very well known in the sporting community with over 41 years of coaching experience. He has coached over 50 Canadian national champions and medalists in a variety of speed and power events, as well as Olympic, Paralympic and World Championship medalists. Les will focus on developing and implementing periodized training plans for individual athletes and teams, mentoring our sport trainers and researching and developing testing protocols.

Bart Ujack is a highly experienced, passionate coach, who has helped many athletes perform consistently at their best. He has coached athletes to national AG championships and Canada Summer Games podiums reach elite draft legal racing divisions, and complete in their first Ironman and Boston Marathons. Bart will head up the new Junior Triathlon Club launching this September, giving aspiring young triathletes between the ages of 13-17 the best chance to maximize their potential.

“Expert coaching and our Integrated Support Team will enhance the training for our Sport Partners and elite athletes preparing for upcoming competitions, including world championships, Olympic Games, Commonwealth championships, Pan Am Games and future national championships,” comments Aimee Johnston, Sport Director, Talisman Centre.

Talisman Centre is also aggressively bidding on International and National sporting events to further build its profile at home and abroad. “Sport is an integral part of Canadian Society, “ said Jeff Booke, “and we want to do our part to promote participation and engagement with high caliber events that we believe create a strong sense of pride in Canada.” !is strategy has already proven successful with winning the bid to host the 2015 National Water Polo Finals for the 16U boys and girls and 19U men and women’s teams set for May 29-31, 2015. Furthermore, Talisman Centres has also just recently secured the 2015 UANA Synchro event.
